When we take the time to review the stories of our own lives, to write those stories down, not only do we preserve them for future generations, we open up the possibility of learning from ourselves in an almost magical way by understanding what makes us tick. Ron Gross and Sue Salko show us how to get started.

Get a Masters Degree in Positive Coaching

Saturday May 5, 2012

I won my first speedskating trophy when I was 6. My entire family was involved in the sport, and I recognized at a very early age the difference between my dad's gentle coaching and the nasty hollering I heard from the parents of some of the other kids.

If you've ever been on the receiving end of any kind of coaching (who hasn't?), you've experienced how much more effective a positive approach is. The University of Missouri recognizes this and is launching the first online masters degree in positive coaching, led by Dr. Rick McGuire.

"For many children and young adults, one of the most important relationships they will have in school is with a coach," said Dan Clay, dean of the MU College of Education. "This program enables coaches and others to strategically examine best practices in coaching to provide a positive coaching culture. This online degree program could have a far-reaching impact on our youth and the way coaches are trained in this country."

The Mizzou program is 30 hours.

When Do You Learn Best? A Learning Styles Inventory

Friday May 4, 2012

Stockbyte - Getty ImagesAre you an early bird? Or a night owl? Maybe the best time of day for you to learn is the middle of the afternoon. Do you know?

Thanks to Ron Gross, we have a new learning styles test for you. It's designed to help you discover what time of day you learn best, if you don't already know. By arranging your day, if possible, around your peak learning times, you maximize your ability to take in new information.

Adult students juggle work, kids, pets, sports, hobbies, school...the list is nearly endless. Anything you can do to make the most of your studying is a good idea. Thanks, Ron!
