I suppose there are those who don't really give much thought to all of the benefits of listening, enjoying and creating good music. I am an advocate for the study of fine arts and I encourage any parent who wants to have a well-rounded socially savvy and spatially intelligent child to seriously consider sponsoring music lessons.

A Sad Farewell To Whitney Houston and 'The Voice'

Monday February 13, 2012
Whitney Houston waving
"This above all: to thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou cans't not be false to any man "(Polonius to Laertis, in William Shakespeare's Hamlet, ll.78-80).

This week the music industry lost another great vocal talent, all very publicly and sadly, very tragically. Whitney was our beloved pop diva vocalists but least we forget, she was so much more than a public figure. To the Houston family she was a precious daughter and to the young Bobbi Kristina she was mom. Ms. Houston's death only serves as a reminder of how the 80's generation seems to be quickly fading away, dying out too fast and with too little impact on the world left behind.

As I recall Whitney Houston, I remember a woman who was once known for her elegant and stylish persona. "Whitney" was the classy superstar celebrity woman of the 1980's. Those of us who value etiquette were glad to see a Hollywood actress/singer who seemed to exhibit and cling to the 'old fashioned' values and we were blown away by what has become known as 'the voice.' At one time Whitney Houston was undeniably the preeminent super star vocalist of our time. Read More...

Weddings are such fun. If someone you know and care for is having a wedding soon, I know that you are probably anticipating receipt of an invitation--that is only normal. Insider's View: Superbowl Weekend Fun In Indianapolis

Friday February 3, 2012
Insider tips for Indiana fun.

Well, it's finally here - Super Bowl XLVI weekend 2012 hosted by the great city of Indianapolis. From all reports, Indy is rising to the occasion of being the great host to the thousands of guests in their house this weekend.

I wanted to share some insider's tips on some great things outside of Super Bowl village for families and visitors to enjoy besides the Super Bowl itself. Here are some things that will help you get a view of the real Indy.

hope Hope Tribble, a native Hoosier gives this advice:
  • Visit the City County building and take the elevator to the top floor (26th) observatory for a panoramic view of Indy. It's free and they have special hours for Super Bowl week - open until 10pm tonight (Friday, the 4th of February) and Saturday nights.
  • Try Long's bakery for the best doughnuts in the world (biased opinion) for breakfast on Saturday!
  • IDADA TURF offers artists exhibits regularly on the first Friday of the month. These are from 6pm to 9 and then an after party from 9- midnight. This is a great way to get a taste of the artsy community in Naptown.
  • The Art Museum offers an outdoor nature area that is beautiful.
  • Make a point to visit the Brickyard--Indianapolis 500 museum and track.
  • Your children will love the children's museum located just outside of the downtown area and noted to be one of the best and largest in the country. Have fun!
