King Abdullah chairs Cabinet meeting (3/5/12)

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet session at Al-Yamamah palace in Riyadh today. After discussing the latest regional and international developments, the Cabinet reiterated the Kingdom’s call for the U.N. Security Council to exercise its legal role and uphold its moral responsibility regarding Syria. It insisted that the international body must take the initiative to end the bloodshed of the Syrian people and to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Next, the ministers lauded the outcome of the 122nd ordinary ministerial session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which was held yesterday in Riyadh. In a final statement, the participants stressed the importance of enhancing stability and development in the Gulf countries and moving towards the formation of a GCC Union.

On the domestic front, the Cabinet reviewed the Kingdom’s recent and upcoming economic and cultural activities, including the Jeddah Economic Forum and the Riyadh International Book Fair. Internationally, it highlighted the results of the 7th Saudi-Lebanese Economic Forum held in Beirut, as well as the 6th meeting of the Saudi-Sudanese Standing Joint Committee.

Addressing its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet authorized the President of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) to discuss a draft memorandum of understanding in the field of tourism between the SCTA and the Kenyan Ministry of Tourism; authorized the Minister of Justice to discuss a draft memorandum of understanding in the judicial field between the Saudi Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan; approved an agreement with Poland on the avoidance of double taxation and income tax evasion; and adopted the final accounts of the Saudi Development Fund (SDF) for fiscal year 1430/1431 H.

The Cabinet approved the appointments of Abdulaziz Al-Ghadeer as Ambassador at the Foreign Ministry; Dr. Adel bin Said Nofal as Ambassador at the Foreign Ministry; Abdullah Al-Fawaz as Legal Expert at the Commission of Experts of the Council of Ministers (15th rank); Marshad Al-Anzi as Assistant Undersecretary of the Governorate at the Northern Borders Governorate (14th rank); Ghorm-Allah Al-Zahrani as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Yahya Almatroodi as Legal Expert B at the Commission of Experts of the Council of Ministers (14th rank).
