King Abdullah chairs Cabinet session (2/20/12)

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet session at Al-Yamamah palace in Riyadh today. He began by summarizing his latest contacts with foreign officials, including visits by Indian Defense Minister A.K. Antony and Tunisian Prime Minister Hamadi Al-Jebali.

After reviewing several reports on regional and international developments, the Cabinet welcomed the approval by the United Nations General Assembly of the draft resolution submitted by the Arab League regarding Syria. It characterized this development as supportive of the efforts exerted by the Arab League to reach a peaceful solution to the crisis and to halt the dangerous escalation of violence against the Syrian people.

Turning to domestic affairs, the Cabinet reviewed the numerous development projects being implemented in various sectors of the Kingdom. King Abdullah underscored the importance of completing these projects efficiently and within budget in order to promote comprehensive development and to improve the welfare of the people. The ministers also noted the various scientific, economic and cultural events attended by Saudi delegations at home and abroad.

Addressing its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet approved the establishment of an industrial city in the Northern Borders Region to be named “Northern Promise City for Mining Industries”; authorized the Minister of Finance to sign a draft protocol dissolving the International Customs Tariffs Bureau; and approved the recommendation of the Board of Directors of the Capital Market to appoint Abdullah Al-Fawaz, Abdulakareem Al-Zekray, and Mohammed Al-Osaimi as reserve members for the representatives of the Experts Commission of the Cabinet, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and the Ministry of Finance, respectively, to the Board of Directors of the Capital Market.

The Cabinet approved the appointments of Osamah bin Ahmad Senoas Ahmad as Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ibrahim Al-Jehiman as Advisor for Classification and Employment Affairs at the Ministry of Civil Service (15th rank); Dr. Abdullah Al-Busairi as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Abdulrahman Al-Mofreh as Director General of the Minister’s Office at the Ministry of Water and Electricity (14th rank); Abdulrahman Al-Khzaim as Director General of Control Apparatus at the Customs Department (14th rank); and Abdulaziz Al-Roomi as Director General of the Customs Department at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Airport (14th rank).
