King Abdullah chairs Cabinet session (8/22/11)

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz chaired this week’s Cabinet session at Al-Safa palace in Makkah tonight. At the outset, the King lauded the development projects recently launched at the Holy Sites, including the inauguration of the expansion project of the Holy Mosque in Makkah. He expressed confidence in the quality of the services being rendered to Umrah performers and urged authorities to keep up their efforts during the Hajj season. King Abdullah also described his latest talks with foreign officials, including Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabr Al-Thani.Then, the Cabinet reviewed several reports on events taking place in the Islamic, Arab and international arenas and praised King Abdullah for initiating the Saudi National Campaign for the Relief of the Somali People. The ministers once again expressed sorrow over the killing and injury of civilians, while denouncing acts of violence and terrorism as contradictory to the principles of Islam and humanitarian norms. Finally, the Cabinet noted that it was closely following the continued Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, which has included deadly air raids and shelling, and called upon the world community to take action.
Addressing its domestic agenda, the Cabinet extended the validity of paragraphs 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8 of the bases and measures of dealing with the delay of government projects, approved by to the Cabinet’s decision No. 155, dated 5/6/1429 H., for three years, effective at each project’s closing date, according to paragraph 9; announced that nobody in the Kingdom would be allowed to become a member simultaneously of more than five boards of directors of stocks companies listed on the money market; renewed the memberships of Ahmed Al-Rajhi, Khalid Al-Guwaiz, Hussein Abu-Dawood, Salman Al-Jishy and Khalid Al-Shareef to the Board of Directors of the Saudi Commission for Industrial Cities and Technology Regions for three years, retroactive to 10/7/1432 H.; and appointed Saleh Al-Afaleq as a representative member of the private sector to the Board of Directors of the Saudi Commission for Industrial Cities and Technology Regions for three years.
The Cabinet approved the appointments of Ibrahim Al-Khalil as Mayor of Assir Region at the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs (15th rank); Dr. Saad Mufleh as Assistant Undersecretary of the General Presidency for Meteorology and Protection of Environment for Environmental Affairs; Atiyyah Al-Ghamdi as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Foreign Ministry; Mohamamd Al-Zamel as Economic Expert at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (14th rank); and Othman Al-Rugaie’e as Director General of Customs of King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam at the Customs Department (14th Rank).
