King Abdullah chairs Cabinet session (11/28/11)

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz began the Cabinet session at Al-Yamamah palace in Riyadh today by congratulating the Arab and Islamic world, in his own name and on behalf of the Saudi government and people, on the advent of the new Hijiri year. He expressed hope that 1433H will be characterized by peace around the world. The King then briefed the Cabinet on his consultations with foreign officials last week, including a telephone call he received from Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa.After reviewing the latest regional developments, the Cabinet hailed the signing of the GCC initiative to resolve the Yemeni crisis by the Yemeni government and the Joint Meeting Parties. It praised King Abdullah for the efforts he exerted to reach an agreement to preserve the security, stability and unity of Yemen. The Cabinet also noted the decision of the Foreign Ministers Council of the Arab League to impose a series of sanctions on Syria, reiterating the commitment of the Arab states to protect the people of Syria. Finally, the ministers welcomed the speech of Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa following the issuance of a final report by the independent commission tasked with investigating the unrest in Bahrain earlier this year. They praised King Hamad’s commitment to transparency, the rule of law, and stability for his country.
Next, the Cabinet reviewed a number of events that took place last week both domestically and abroad, including the 10th Meeting of the Joint Defense Council of the Ministers of Defense in Abu Dhabi; the 121st Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs preparing for the 32nd Session of the Supreme Council of the GCC in Riyadh; and the 8th Future Forum of the Group of Eight and the Middle East and North Africa in Kuwait.
Addressing its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet approved a number of procedures regarding claims of jurisdiction between the Control and Investigation Board (CIB) and the Commission for Investigation and Prosecution (CIP) regarding article (25) of the criminal procedure regulation; approved increasing the Kingdom’s contribution to the capital of the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit from 13,500 shares to 60,000 shares; approved the accession of the Ministry of Social Affairs to the membership of the Anti-Money Laundering Committee; and approved the national strategy for transportation.
The Cabinet also approved the transfer of Abdullah bin Ali bin Mohammed bin Melfi from the post of Adviser for Classification and Employment Affairs (15th rank) to the post of Undersecretary of the Ministry of Civil Service (15th rank).
