Council of Arab Interior Ministers’ session concludes

A session of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers concluded yesterday in the Tunisian city of Hammamet. Deputy Minister of the Interior Prince Ahmad bin Abdulaziz led the Saudi delegation to the meeting. During the opening session, Prince Ahmad read a speech on behalf of Crown Prince and Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz, who expressed his regrets for not being able to attend the meeting due to scheduled medical examinations in the United States. The Crown Prince wished the conference success and expressed his hurt over the unacceptable violence ongoing in Syria.In his own statement, Prince Ahmad stressed that the all Arab countries are negatively affected by the violence in Syria and, therefore, must take action. “We all wish Syria lasting stability and prosperity,” he remarked. “We want Syria in the forefront, as usual, in all that concerns Arabs. We pray to God to guide it to . . . reconciliation.”
After discussing a variety of issues, the Council took a number of decisions, including approving the draft Arab Security Plan, which aims at fighting organized crime, terrorism and drugs; the draft Arab Media Plan for Security Awareness and Crime Prevention; and a draft plan for implementing the Arab Strategy for Traffic Safety.
During his stay in Tunisia, Prince Ahmad met separately with many senior officials, including Moroccan Interior Minister Mohand Laenser; Sudanese Interior Minister Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid; Yemeni Interior Minister Maj. Gen. Abdulqadir Mohammed Qahtan; and Tunisian Interior Minister Ali Al-Areedh.
