Conference on Terrorism concluded

April 1, 2010

The 10th session of the “Conference on Terrorism: Between Intellectual Extremism and Extremist Ideology,” organized by the Islamic University in Madinah, concluded its proceedings today. A final statement was issued calling upon the Arab and Muslim media to broadcast programs that promote dialogue and increase awareness of Islam’s moderate and tolerant nature. The conference rejected the distorted portrayal of Muslims by various media outlets and recommended that the Muslim World League (MWL) establish an Islamic Information Commission for the improvement of the image of Islam. The statement condemned extremist groups, demanding that they stop invoking Islam as an excuse for perpetrating criminal acts and calling upon them to repent.

Finally, the participants hailed the efforts of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz to promote dialogue between civilizations and commended the actions taken by Saudi officials and scholars to combat terrorism and extremist ideology.
