Analysis: Murray has 24 goals and 16 assists in 220 NHL games for Columbus and San Jose. He had one goal and three assists in 39 games during his lone season with the Sharks. |
| 6/10/2012 | Brad Stuart, D | The San Jose Sharks are bringing back former high draft pick Brad Stuart in a deal with the Detroit Red Wings. The Sharks announced Sunday they acquired the defenseman from Detroit for forward Andrew Murray and a conditional 2014 draft pick. Analysis: Stuart is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent July 1. Sharks general manager Doug Wilson says he is hopeful he can sign him to a new contract later this month. Stuart was drafted third overall by San Jose in 1998 before being traded to Boston in 2005 as part of a package for Joe Thornton. Stuart later played for Calgary, Los Angeles and Detroit, winning a Stanley Cup with the Red Wings in 2008. The 32-year-old Stuart had six goals and 15 assists last season. |
| 6/7/2012 | David Jones, RW | The Avalanche have agreed to a a four-year, $16 million contract with Jones. Analysis: Jones finished with 20 goals and 17 assists last season. He also tied for the team lead with five game-winning goals. The 27-year-old was taken by Colorado in the ninth round of the 2003 draft. When he made his debut in 2007-08, he became the lowest draft pick in franchise history to make it to the NHL. |
| 6/5/2012 | Dominic Moore, C | Moore says he missed playoff games this postseason because his wife has a rare form of liver cancer. Analysis: Moore issued a statement Tuesday through the Sharks to explain his absence from San Jose's final two playoff games in April against St. Louis. He says his wife, Katie, was diagnosed with the disease late in the season. She underwent surgery in California in April and Moore missed the final two games against the Blues with the team's permission. Moore thanked the organization and his teammates for their support. He says Katie is still being treated. |
| 6/3/2012 | Tim Thomas, G | Thomas says he'll sit out next season. Analysis: General manager Chiarelli said Friday that the 38-year-old Thomas appeared tired after the championship season, when he played in 82 games, including every minute of the longest postseason in Bruins history. He got very little time off down the stretch this year after backup Tuukka Rask was injured at the beginning of March. The Bruins are left with Rask and Anton Khudobin as their top two goaltenders for next season. |
| 6/1/2012 | Daniel Paille, LW | The Boston Bruins have signed Paille to a three-year contract worth almost $4 million. Analysis: The team also announced it gave forward Chris Bourque a two-year deal. Bourque is the son of Bruins Hall of Famer Ray Bourque. The first year of Chris Bourque's deal will be a two-way contact. In all, it could be worth $1.1 million. Paille has played three years in Boston, scoring 25 goals with 22 assists and 55 penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres. |
| 6/1/2012 | Marian Gaborik, RW | The Rangers say Gaborik will have shoulder surgery next week to repair a torn labrum. Analysis: Gaborik will be operated on Wednesday in New York, according to a statement issued Friday by the Rangers. Gaborik, New York's leading scorer in the regular season, played in all 82 games during the season and 20 more in the playoffs as the Rangers reached the Eastern Conference finals before losing to New Jersey in Game 6. The right winger had a team-high 41 goals and 76 points as the Rangers earned the top seed in the East playoffs. |
| 6/1/2012 | Johan Gustafsson, G | The Minnesota Wild signed Gustafsson to a three-year, entry-level contract Thursday. Analysis: The 20-year-old Gustafsson had a 1.68 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage in the Swedish Elite League this season. He also helped lead Sweden to the gold medal at the 2012 world junior championship. Gustafsson was a sixth-round pick in 2010. He will help add depth to the organization at goaltender behind Niklas Backstrom. It also could increase the likelihood that free agent veteran Josh Harding does not return. |

Analysis: MacKenzie had seven goals and seven assists in a career-high 66 games with the Blue Jackets last season and led the club with a plus-4 rating. The 30-year-old has 19 goals and 26 assists with 92 penalty minutes and a plus-18 rating in 193 career NHL games. All but two of the assists came with the Blue Jackets. He also played for the Atlanta Thrashers. |
| 5/31/2012 | Nicklas Lidstrom, D | Lidstrom announced Thursday that he is retiring after playing all 20 NHL seasons with the Detroit Red Wings. Analysis: The 42-year-old Lidstrom set an NHL record by playing 1,564 games with one team. The four-time Stanley Cup champion put retirement on hold in each of the previous two years. Lidstrom had a plus-21 rating that ranked among the league's best last season. He missed a career-high 11 games with a bruised right ankle and was out for another game with the flu. Analysis: The four-time Stanley Cup champion and seven-time Norris Trophy winner put retirement on hold in each of the previous two years by signing one-year contracts and answering questions from reporters on a conference call. This time, he's holding a news conference at Joe Louis Arena. Lidstrom had 34 points and a plus-21 rating that ranked among the league leaders last season. He missed a career-high 11 games due to a bone bruise on his right ankle. |
