In Mexico, video causes stir ahead of elections

#NiñosIncómodos video depicts country’s grim present and demands change.

A video showing children act out scenes of political corruption and drug violence in Mexico has created controversy in the country ahead of the presidential elections.

Created by the movement Nuestro Mexico del Futuro, or Our Mexico of the Future, the video has received more than a million views on YouTube in three days. On Twitter, netizens have been discussing the video using the hashtag #NiñosIncómodos or #UncomfortableChildren.

“Stop working for your parties and not for us,” says a young girl at the end of the video. She then addresses the presidential candidates and declares, “Time is up. Mexico has hit rock bottom.”

Several legislators from parties such as the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and the Labour Party (PT) have urged the Mexico's Secretariat of Governance (SEGOB) to take down the video for what they say is a negative portrayal of children and a violation of their rights.
