Crown Prince Naif Dies, Prince Salman Named as Successor
H.R.H. Crown Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud died in Geneva, Switzerland, Saturday, June 16, 2012. A funeral was held for the Crown Prince the following day in Makkah. Crown Prince Naif held the posts of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and was in line to succeed Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah as monarch. He had chaired various committees including the Higher Hajj Committee, the Higher Civil Defense Council, the Council of Governors, the Board of Directors at Naif Arab University for Security Sciences, the Higher Industrial Security Commission, the Higher Information Council, Supervisor of the Authority of Investigation and Public Prosecution, the Manpower Council, the Board of the Human Resources Development Fund, and Chief of the Supreme Commission for Tourism. On June 7, 2012, the U.S.-Saudi Arabian Business Council (USSABC) participated in a seminar titled “Saudi Arabia: Taking Business Opportunities in The Middle East to the Next Level.” The event was hosted by the Utah Governor's Office of Economic Development, World Trade Center Utah, and the World Trade Association of Utah and had approximately 60 attendees. USSABC President Speaks on
On May 24, 2012, Edward Burton, President and Managing Director of the U.S.-Saudi Arabian Business Council, spoke with Burton Bollag, reporter for KSA2 – Saudi Arabian, English-language television. Mr. Burton discussed the U.S.-Saudi bilateral business relationship and noted that despite the recent international economic slowdown, trade and investment are up between the two countries. He also emphasized the role that Saudi Arabia’s National Industrial Clusters Development Program will have in creating business opportunities for U.S. firms, as well as the role that investment in Saudi education will have in spurring the Kingdom’s long-term economic and industrial growth.
