The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) is hiring a full time researcher on foreign trade and aid to be part of the organization's Economic and Social Justice Unit.

Job Responsibilities:
The selected researcher will carry out the following tasks:
• Participate in developing a comprehensive assessment of the impact of foreign trade and aid on social and economic rights and development prospects together with proposing necessary and relevant reforms in Egypt.
• Develop and feed the public discourse on social and economic justice in relation to foreign trade and aid, generate key media coverage.
• Engage, connect and support campaigns by stakeholders and local communities demandingjustice in issues related to foreign trade and aid.
• Deploy the EIPR's litigation potential strategically in cooperation with the litigation unit.
• Ensure that social and economic rights and justice are embedded in future Egyptian legislations and regulations that tackle trade and aid arrangements through scrutinizing extant laws and standards.
• Envision and promote more just and sustainable trade and aid public policies for Egypt.
• Monitor policy developments, research trade- and aid-related justice   issues and produce relevant and timely policy briefs and other research materials.
• Identify and establish contacts with relevant allies and stakeholders, including affected communities, NGOs, parliamentarians and relevant government bodies.
• Represent the organisation at national and international events related to foreign trade and aid.

Requirements:
• A degree in economics, political economy or development studies or other relevant disciplines. Masters degree preferable.
• Familiarity with international trade and foreign aid issues in Egypt, their historical background and interaction with the state bureaucracy and political regime dynamics and their impact on people's lives.
• Good knowledge of the developmental impact of foreign trade and aid schemes on developing countries with regards to development prospects, democratization and state capacity.
• A good understanding of the systemic drivers underlying social and economic injustice in Egypt and how they are related to trade commitments and aid conditionality.
• A good understanding of the regulatory context and processes in Egypt related to trade and aid issues.
• Effective interpersonal skills, including those needed to reach out and network with affected community members and key decision makers.
• Excellent research and writing skills in Arabic and a good working knowledge of English, especially in complex trade and foreign trade issues.
• Willingness and ability to travel within Egypt and abroad.
• The ability to function quickly and well under pressure, both independently and as a member of a team, and to juggle multiple tasks.

Salary
Salary will be commensurate with experience, and within the range of salaries offered by Egyptian human rights NGOs.
