We call your attention to two events of the Commencement Weekend 2012.

Georgetown College Tropaia Exercises

Friday, May 18, Gaston Hall at 12:30 p.m.
This awards ceremony is a golden moment. All degree candidates and their families are invited to attend. Faculty have selected outstanding seniors to receive a variety of awards. The senior class selects a faculty member to receive the Bunn Award, and this professor gives a brief address. The valedictorian of the class gives the Cohonguroton Oration. (“Cohonguroton” is an historic alternate name for the Potomac River.) The ceremony is an hour and fifteen minutes in length. A reception for faculty, seniors, and their families follows.

Georgetown College Commencement
Saturday, May 19, Healy Lawn at 9:00 a.m.
There is no rehearsal for the ceremony. In sunny weather, we hold the ceremony outside on Healy Lawn. Seating for families is open. The formal ceremony lasts about two hours. Diplomas are then distributed on Copley Lawn.

If rain threatens the ceremony, we post a rain call three hours in advance, and reconfigure our ceremony in McDonough Gymnasium. We divide the senior class in two and run the ceremony twice. Students are given seven rain site tickets for their family and guests. Diplomas are distributed from locations in the White-Gravenor Building.
