    The Southeastern Conference today announced the winner of its first ever SEC Professor of the Year Award: Dr. Loch K. Johnson, a faculty member in the School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Georgia.
    The Southeastern Conference (SEC) today announced the winners of its first ever Southeastern Conference Faculty Achievement Awards. The awards honor professors from SEC universities with outstanding records in teaching and scholarship who serve as role models for other faculty and students.
    The SEC Academic Consortium’s Leadership Development Program (ALDP) seeks to identify and equip the next generation of academic leaders in the SEC by providing participants (i.e., fellows) with the opportunity to discuss the challenges of academic administration at SEC universities.
    University of Arkansas Chancellor G. David Gearhart signed a joint international student exchange agreement on Friday, February 12, 2010.


    SEC Academic Consortium At A Glance


    Established in 2005, the SEC Academic Consortium (SECAC) is made up of the 12 universities that comprise the Southeastern Conference. And its core mission is to advance academic excellence through collaboration.  In so doing, members of the SECAC have established and operate an academic leadership development program for senior-level faculty and administrators; enhanced education abroad opportunities for students; engaged university admissions offices in student recruiting efforts outside of the traditional SEC footprint, and built a framework for collaboration among academic deans and department heads.

    Professor of the Year Johnson Embraces Ideal of Student-Athletes
    The Greeks would be proud of Dr. Loch K. Johnson. Not only is Johnson the Regents Professor of Public and International Affairs at the University of Georgia, a role that he has performed with such success that he was named the Southeastern Conference’s inaugural Professor of the Year last week at the SEC Spring Meetings in Destin.     SEC Academic Consortium Leadership Development Program
    The SEC Academic Consortium’s Leadership Development Program (ALDP) seeks to identify and equip the next generation of academic leaders in the SEC by providing participants (i.e., fellows) with the opportunity to discuss the challenges of academic administration at SEC universities. The ALDP was established in 2008 and has graduated three classes of fellows. It consists of two workshops hosted by two different SEC universities each year.     SEC Academic Consortium Reorganized, Johnson To Lead
    The Southeastern Conference Academic Consortium (SECAC) will relocate to Birmingham and a new director has been named, announced Commissioner Mike Slive. Torie Johnson has been named to serve as the SEC Academic Consortium Director, effective July 1. In her new role, Johnson will continue the SEC Provosts' work on existing initiatives while implementing the new direction established by the SEC Presidents and Chancellors. Full Story

    SEC Schools Conduct Joint Recruitment Fairs for Fairfax County and Northern Virginia Areas
    When Marian Kendrick, a career center specialist at Oakton High School, asked a director of admissions from a Southeastern Conference school if she could bring her colleagues up to Northern Virginia to meet with students from their schools, little did she know that representatives from all 12 schools would be coming less than a year later.     SEC Universities Collaborate to Educate Abroad
    In 2008, the Southeastern Conference Academic Consortium (SECAC) was awarded an Institute for Study Abroad Foundation (IFSA) grant of $94,000 to provide scholarship support for Southeastern Conference (SEC) students to study abroad together. Full Story
