Mohamed Khawaja Blames LOC For His Exclusion From Olympic Games
The only athlete who ever stood a chance to win Libya its first ever medal in an Olympic Games, Mohamed Ashour Khawaja has been deprived the chance to prove himself and strive for a podium finish at the London 2012 Games next week by the Libyan Olympic Committee, LOC, which is scandalous behaviour on the part of the LOC.

Libyan swimmer Sofyan El Gadi, one of the five athletes chosen by the Libyan Olympic Committee to represent the country in the London 2012 Olympic Games, has finalised his preparation for the event at the University of Bath, in the UK where he has been receiving professional coaching since the start of June.

Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso, 30, was superb as he controlled the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim from the start and in a tense finish fended off local boy and reigning champion Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) and McLaren's Jenson Button to take victory Sunday to extend his championship lead over Red Bull's Mark Webber who could only finish eighth. Vettel was later demoted to fifth place.

By the end of this weekend, we would be at the halfway point of the 2012 Formula One World Championship for 2012 when the 12 participating teams with their 24 racing cars take part in the German Grand Prix on the Hockenheim circuit which last featured on the calendar in 2010. Ferrari's Spanish driver Fernando Alonso managed to master the wet conditions Saturday in official qualification to take pole position for the second GP running.

If ever Libya entertained any hope of winning its first medal in an Olympic Gmes, then London 2012 was it. This could have been achieved through 24-year-old 400 metres runner Mohamed Ashour Khawaja, winner of gold medals in the 2009 Mediterranean Games in Pescara, Italy, and the African Athletic Championships in Nairobi, Kenya in 2010. But our hopes have been dashed as Khawaja is not even in the Libyan team to go to the Olympic Games that start on July 27.

Libya Represented by Five Athletes in Four Sports at the London 2012 Olympic Games
With Mohamed Khawaja out of the squad, Libya will be represented for the Olympic Games in London with a token contingent of five athletes competing in four sports disciplines. They will be led by Libyan Olympic Committee member Mr. Hafez Alqreetley. It will be Libya's 13th participation in the Summer Games.

Libya Drawn Against Algeria in Final Qualifier for AFCON 2013
Libya has been drawn to meet Algeria in the last qualifying round of the 29th edition of the African Cup of Nations, AFCON 2013 to be held in South Africa from January 19 to February 10 next year.
