Abstract: In a rapidly changing, increasingly competitive world of today, Knowledge may be Organisation’s greatest competitive advantage. Knowledge should flow freely in the organisation and a knowledge portal is essential in any organization from where users get knowledge they need to do their work at their finger tips and should get appropriate reputation for the knowledge they share. The paper briefs Knowledge Management (KM) and highlights the salient features of a knowledge portal. The paper stresses the importance of a knowledge portal in any organization. Abstract: The paper presents and analyses the development of open source software and the building of digital library with reference to the GSDL software. It describes digital library and its importance in details. It also discusses with illustrations how to build a digital library by using the open source software i.e. ‘Greenstone Digital Library’. Searching and browsing full text information is also described taking example from New Zealand Digital Library. It identifies the strength and limitation of GSDL. It is predicted that GSDL is becoming popular digital library software because of its flexibility and low cost/no cost of ownership. The author conclude that because of its cost effectiveness and flexibility GSDL can be a powerful tool in bridging the gap of digital divide in India. Abstract: The library services have changed very fast in the last twenty years. Nowadays, electronic resources, networks and the World Wide Web represent a large portion of the library services. The librarians must manage staff, information in several supports, and technical activities to produce quality services. Quality services means resources and services, which satisfy users’ expectations and perceptions. It is very clear that librarians must use management tools to run the library services. These tools such as TQM, SERVQUAL, LibQUAL help them to assess services, to make decisions, to improve services and to achieve a better quality. The networked environment offers libraries’ challenges and opportunities in a number of areas including management, services, and collection development. The main objective of this paper is to describe and identify the issues meriting attention by the library professionals to gear up the library product and services so that user communities get satisfied coming to library. Abstract: The time for comparisons and conflicts between print media and electronic media appear to be over as the world prepare itself for the next era in the digital society. The need of modern information society has changed the library from traditional type to digital one. This paper discusses problems challenged and issues involved in design and development of worlds standard digital library focused on India Context. The paper explains the concept and architecture of a digital library. Digital libraries can immediately adopt innovations in technology providing users with improvements in electronic and audio book technology as well as presenting new form of communication. This Paper also discusses the Metadata concept as it is developed in the field of library and information science. If is an effective way of information management. It briefly touches upon concept of Metadata repository. It also discusses how Indian University Libraries can develop a digital library for electronic theses and Dissertation (ETD).
