GETTY IMAGES ANNOUNCES FINAL CALL FOR GRANTS FOR EDITORIAL PHOTOGRAPHY

May 1 deadline to submit proposal and portfolio to professional and student programs

WHAT:  Getty Images today announced that there are two weeks left to submit entries for the 2012 Grants for Editorial Photography.  Empowering professional photojournalists to create compelling social, political, and cultural stories, Getty Images Grants for Editorial Photography awards four of five $20,000 grants to fund projects of personal and journalistic significance.  The student grant program provides the opportunity for student winners’ work to be showcased on Reportage by Getty Images.  Both individual photographers and those who work within teams may apply for a grant.  In addition, one grant will be awarded, in conjunction with The Chris Hondros Fund, for extraordinary news coverage of a current event. Details will be forthcoming.

WHY:    First established in 2004, the Grants for Editorial Photography underscore Getty Images’ belief in the power of photojournalism to generate greater awareness of significant social and cultural issues and its dedication to supporting content creators. The grants program was developed to promote excellence in photojournalism, by providing both emerging and established photographers with the means, creative freedom and collaborative editorial guidance to pursue projects of personal and journalistic significance.  In addition to grants, Getty Images awards winners with resources such as project execution guidance from Getty Images photo editors.

WHEN:  Entries for the 2012 Grants for Editorial Photography will be accepted until May 1, 2012 at grants.gettyimages.com.

WHO:   Grants will be awarded by independent judges, each selected by Getty Images for his or her talent and industry experience. Selection will be based on the judges’ determination of an applicant’s ability to execute their proposed project with compelling visual narrative in documentary feature format, taking into account the caliber of portfolio, project merit and professional ability. The 2012 Grants for Editorial Photography judging panel will consist of:

- Kira Pollack, Director of Photography, Time Magazine
