Doha, November 1, 2010 – The second season of Stars of Science, an initiative of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, is marking the come-back to the competition after the “orientation week” experienced by the candidates. The thrilling fifth prime-time episode of “Stars of Science”, broadcast on Sunday, October 31, set the bar high upon its “Proof of Concept” phase.
Facing the jury for the first time since their admission to the workshop, the 16 hopefuls had to convince the top-level experts that their innovative project is feasible.
Only 10 candidates, from 7 Arab countries, were finally selected to the next stage, one step closer to the final prizes totaling 600,000 USD, and ranked as follows:

The two permanent jurors welcomed notably the special guest Dr Farouk El-Baz, a world-renowned scientist who participated in the NASA Apollo program and Dr. Eyad Masad, Assistant Dean for Research and Graduate Studies and Professor of mechanical engineering at Texas A&M; at Qatar.
“Ahead of us is a golden opportunity for Arab youth to take us forward”, said El-Baz, currently Director for Remote Sensing at Boston University, USA, in front of the candidates.
The next weekly prime-time episode of “Stars of Science”, broadcast on Sunday, November 7 and the daily shows, from Monday to Saturday, will show how the 10 remaining candidates will encounter the upcoming “Engineering” phase, in which they will need to detail the functioning of their innovation project and assemble a fully-functional prototype.
As a new feature of this season, every candidate will also be able, from now on, to receive the support of a “Project Partner”, who they can choose among their friends, family members and acquaintances
