Libyan Government Confiscates 100 Tanks from Gaddafi Loyalists
24/08/2012 11:50:00
Libyan government forces have confiscated 100 tanks and almost 30 rocket launchers from a militia loyal to former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, and interior ministry spokesman said.

bdelmonem al-Hur said that following a raid on Wednesday on a camp occupied by a group of Gaddafi loyalists at Tarhuna, calling themselves the Brigade of the Faithful, they managed to discover the heavy arsenal and arrest militia members.

Mr Al-Hur said that the haul was made during the raid on the town 60 kilometres from the country's capital, Tripoli, one person was killed and several others injured.

The government is reportedly blaming this militia for the car bombings on Sunday that killed two people. Thirteen members belonging to the Gaddafi loyalist militia, were arrested in the raid.

Amid growing concern about the number of violent incidents in the country, three people were killed late Thursday and about 40 injured in tribal clashes between tribes in the western Libyan town of Zlitan, some 120 kilometres away from the capital, Tripoli.

The fighting reportedly erupted after a tribesman was killed by a rival tribe in the town.
