Abstract: We are moving from a physical world based on atoms to a digital world based on bits. Today new techniques of Information packaging and delivery ensure its availability at the point of demand instantly. This is achieved by exploiting the technologies provided by telecommunications, computer networking and broadcasting media. Some major Value-Added Services like E-mail and the WWW ( World Wide Web ) , Cable TV and Internet Access, Education via Internet E-business, Telebanking , Radio and Television Broadcast on the Internet are a result of this convergence bringing up various Security and Cryptography aspects . Internet telephony reflects the beginning of a new communication era, which is characterized by running real-time applications over Internet/Intranet based computer communication infrastructure. Mobile communications and Internet based computer communications are the two fastest growing areas of communications indicating an enormous potential in the intersection of these two domains. Emerging trends are 4G, the Wireless Broadband Access which gives way to applications like Virtual Navigation, Tele medicine, Tele-geoprocessing applications, Crisis management applications and Virtual Laboratories. The interaction between human and the 3C’s ( Computer + Communication + Content (Multimedia) is becoming a daily staple as we witness powerful computers uniting in a networked environment where wired and wireless communications enjoy broadening bandwidths that permit the transmission of multimedia content. Abstract: Libraries are moving into a transitional state i.e. traditional library service and integration of current ICT to facilitate the services. Since the inception of libraries, libraries are trying to develop their collection in order to satisfy the need of their users. It is not possible for the librarians’ to provide all desired information to their users so they depend on other libraries for the information. The Library cooperation started with the participatory culture. The library professionals cooperate each other’s through various ways like inter library loan, consultancies etc. Online catalogs, hightech campus information networks, and accelerated resource sharing present opportunities for building comprehensive information centers. The present paper discusses the participative management, team work, ICT, Library building etc among library professionals as well as the user community. The library 2.0 technologies are helpful for collaborating in information creation, storage and retrieval. The library staff needs to be more dynamic in their approach to learn the current technology and leadership skills. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1716 Files in this item: 1

Abstract: Search engines are about excitement, optimism, hope and enrichment. Search engines are also about despair and disappointment. A researcher while using search engines for resource discovery might have experienced one or the other sentiments. One may say that user satisfaction depends much upon the search strategies deployed by the user. But at the same time its also depends upon the quality of search engine used for information retrieval. Today, there are many search engines used for resource discovery. They display the results of the searches made in readily-comprehensible manner with lots of customization possibilities including refining and sorting. This paper is an attempt to analyze qualitatively and quantitatively the three most used and popular search engines for academic resource discovery: Google Scholar, Scirus and Windows Live Academic. Abstract: Usage of digital media has witnessed a tremendous growth during the last decades, as a result of their notable benefits in efficient storage, ease of manipulation and transmission. However these features make digital media vulnerable to copyright infringement, tampering and unauthorized distribution. The access provisions and security or protection of digital resources has received significant attention within the digital media community, and a number of techniques in this respect have been evolved. In this paper we have discussed some of the reasons for attacking the digital resources; authentication, authorization, data hiding techniques for copyright protection and also some relevant topics of research results. Abstract: The escalating price of electronic journals, Indexing and abstracting databases along with traditionally published print subscriptions has forced library community to explore alternative means of subscription. The consortia based subscription is perhaps a solution for subscription of peerreviewed journals. In India, during last five years we have witnessed many consortia based subscription, ranging from subject specific to institution specific. The advancement of Internet and telecommunication has made it possible to subscribe network based resources to the users. The paper describes about the initiative taken by INFLIBNET in this direction and highlights the importance of current trends of usage statistics of networked resources of various publishers. Further the authors describe the patterns of electronic journal usage by the members of UGC-Infonet Digital library consortium during the last three years. Abstract: In era of knowledge based economy and globalization of world economy, a new opportunity has been emerged as a management issue within the spectrum of information management, information technology, artificial intelligence, expert system, semantic web, neural network, cognitive sciences, mathematics and management theory, economics and recently Cloud Computing. This study tries to give a different perspective of the cloud application through a knowledge management perspective and its structure in the cloud computing environment. In recent years, there has been a great hype about cloud computing and different books and literature reviews have classified different types of cloud with various definitions and criteria focusing on mainly three different layers of services being infrastructure, platform and software. The benefit of cloud computing is supply of services anytime, anywhere device-agnostic access. This paper provides a metaobservation over an integrated cloud ecosystem through the knowledge window. Achieving Knowledge Management through Cloud Computing has expanded new insights, vision and practices. This article critically evaluates ways to achieve knowledge management though cloud computing. Abstract: Traditionally, the libraries have print-oriented collections. With the publishing world steadily moving from print to electronic, the libraries are also slowly adopting to the changes. Electronic information environment facilitates enhancement in the speed of service, number of users served, the quantum and exhaustiveness of information provided. However, the libraries need to have a methodical approach to move from print to electronic media. They should have well defined policies in place. This paper specifically focuses on the new policies adopted by Scientific Information Resource Centre (SIRC) of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in acquiring e-resources with particular reference to Electronic Journals. Abstract: The paper has made an attempt to study the activities and reasons for using Social Networking Sites (SNS) by the research scholars of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU). For that the study has covered two social networking sites namely Facebook and ResearchGate based on popularity and widely used by research scholars. a self administered questionnaire was distributed among the research scholars of NEHU. And the primary data gathered through questionnaire were analyzed and discussed in accordance with the objective of the study. Here it is found that most of the scholars from social science background use SNS from education and research point of view; on the contrary scholars from pure science think that SNS has no role on research and education. They use SNS just for entertainment. The paper concludes with some suggestions given by the respondents for making SNS better research tool. URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1944/1666 Files in this item: 1
