For eighty years, the ABC has been with you in your house, your car, and more recently anywhere you go via your smart phone.

For some, it is the first thing you see of a morning for others it's the last thing you hear at night.

We've been with you through the birth of television, the internet, and digital services like TV and Radio, and just as important, probably the birth of your kids, and their kids too?

From Blue Hills and the Kindergarten of the Air, to Conversations with Richard Fidler the magic of wireless is as special now as it was 80 years ago when the ABC was officially inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Joseph Lyons.

Your memories

We asked you to share your favourite memories of Aunty with us as we celebrate 80 years of your ABC.

Some of you have been listeners all your life.

Pam from Beerwah says she's one of those listeners who's been with us for 80 years.

"My earliest memory is of my father listening on a crystal set, particularly to the cricket test, in the days when they used to bang a pencil on the table as the sound for the click of the ball hitting the bats. We've been listening ever since."

Jenny in East Brisbane says the ABC was only 10 years old when she was born.

"I remember Kindergarden of the Air, and those wonderful school broadcasts, I still have one of the song books!

"Congratulations ABC, you've been my lifelong friend, and you have helped to build our nation."

Gwen Wilson from Wavell Heights says her favourite memory of the ABC is of a special radio announcer.

"My favourite announcer was Russ Tyson. I remember as a young teenager I belonged to his Kookaburra Club, which was held on Saturday mornings at the Albert Hall, which was then in Albert Street.

Russ Tyson was a name that stuck with many who listened to ABC from the late 1940's. He presented the Breakfast show from 1948 to 1966 as well as various TV shows in Brisbane.

"We used to think this was great. We had a badge which had stars on it. If you were in the club a certain amount of time, you got one of your stars filled in," she says.

Gwen says she doesn't remember what happened to the badge, but at 84, she still remembers 'The Kookaburra Club'.

Farmer George Kingston says one of his favourite memories also involves Russ Tyson.

"There was just so many good announcers over those years."

He says the ABC Radio in the 1960's was an important source of information when in came to his farming.

"I used to listen to 4QR for the market report," he says.

Annie from Coopooroo says the music played on the ABC during the 1970's holds a special place in her memory.

"I remember as a teenager in the seventies, on a Saturday afternoon, listening to Bill Riner.

"He would be the person that I would get my new music from. I loved his voice, and ocassionally I hear him on the ABC now, and it brings back fond memories."
