Uttar Pradesh Judiciary

The Uttar Pradesh judiciary comprises of the High court and the district courts. The state of Uttar Pradesh has Allahabad High Court and district courts namely the district court of Etawah and the district court of Kanpur Dehat as Uttar Pradesh judiciary.

The High Court of Allahabad is the major part of judiciary of Uttar Pradesh. It is the vertex court in the Uttar Pradesh State that deals with various types of civil and criminal cases. The work of the High Court of Allahabad functions as permanent evidence. The High Court of Allahabad is an integral part of the Uttar Pradesh judiciary whose records and proceedings cannot be challenged in other lower court.

The President of India appoints the Chief Justice of the High Court of the Uttar Pradesh judiciary on the advice of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India as well as the Governor of Uttar Pradesh. Other judges are appointed by the Chief Justice of the high court of the judiciary of Uttar Pradesh on the advice of the Chief Justice. The chief justice with other judges of the High court held office in the judiciary in Uttar Pradesh for the period of ten years.

Subordinate Judicial Service is another vital part of the judiciary of Uttar Pradesh. The subordinate judiciary or the district courts are categorized into two divisions:
  • Uttar Pradesh civil judicial services
  • Uttar Pradesh higher judicial service
While the Uttar Pradesh civil judicial services comprises of the munsifs and civil judges, the Uttar Pradesh higher judicial service comprises of civil and sessions judges. The Subordinate judicial service of the judiciary at Uttar Pradesh is controlled by the District Judge. The district court of Etawah and district court of Kanpur Dehat of Uttar Pradesh serves as the subordinate judicial service of the State.
