Libya’s interim interior minister Fawzi Abdelali has resigned after members of the newly-elected parliament accused his forces of neglect when attackers bulldozed Sufi's Al-Shaab Al-Dahman mosque and shrine on Saturday while police stood by in the latest in a string of assaults on Sufi places of worship. They also condemned the acts of violence.

There has been a low turnout at the elections of the Local Council in Zliten. The number of registered voters reached 74 thousands but only 14 thousand participated compared to the number of participants in the July National Congress elections that reached 59,000.

At a meeting at the UN headquarters in New York and his first meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon since agreeing last week to replace Kofi Annan as the Joint Special Representative of the UN and Arab League on Syria, Algerian diplomat Lakhdar Brahimi said he was "honoured, flattered, humbled and scared" at the prospect of leading international efforts to broker peace in Syria's worsening 17-month conflict.

Amid Emotional scenes in the main street of the capital Valletta during a state funeral at the end of two days of mourning, on Saturday morning, Malta's former Prime Minister Dom Mintoff , Malta's longest serving prime minister, who died on Monday, aged 96, was laid to rest at the island's main cemetery.

I have often wondered why some people fail to resign themselves to reason and try to make the best of what's there. In Libya, some loyalists of the former dictator Muammar Gaddafi seem to believe that the February 17 Revolution was just a passing phase. They were so lost in the corruption that prevailed, that they believe that their good old days would return. No way!

The respect the people had for former prime minister and leader of the Labour Party in Malta Dom Mintoff was proved over the past two days when they they first paid homage to him at a cortège on thursday, and then filed in their thousands past his coffin to pay their last respects as he was lying in state at the Presidential Palace in the Maltese capital, Valletta on Friday.

A Norwegian court has declared Anders Behring Breivik who had admitted admitted killing 77 people and wounding more than 240 others sane and sentenced him to 21 years in jail. It was on July 22 last year that Breivik bombed central Oslo and then opened fire at an island youth camp.
