There are hundreds and thousands of writers in the Envato community. In this short series of articles we’re exploring some excellent resources to help our writers be more productive.

Most of us do the lion’s share of our writing on a full-featured computer – either a laptop or a desktop. Last week we started the series by looking at some great desktop apps for authors.

But mobile devices play a growing role in our workflow. I use my iPad and even iPhone to capture ideas for articles, brainstorm content in an outline or mindmap, clip reference material from the Web, and even occasionally write complete articles.

So in this article we’ll roundup some great mobile software for writers from AppStorm. Which apps are you most productive with?

In this age where software, documents, and media are all being stored in the cloud, one has to ask the question “Where is the place of the humble pen and paper?” Are they rendered void by the rise of cloud based to-do apps, minimal writing software, and programs designed specifically to make note-taking a breeze?

The answer to this question really comes down to personal preference, but there are some great things about both writing by hand and typing.

Sometimes I can sit at my desk for days and I just won’t get any ideas. It’s like it is just blocked, you know?

The other day I was sitting at my desk for hours thinking, and I just couldn’t come up with anything. Out of frustration and boredom I took an shower. And BAM! There it was again – good ideas spilling out of my head. Good idea’s always seem to occur to me in the bathroom for some reason.
