The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting is pleased to announce its partnership with South Dakota State University through the Pulitzer Center's Campus Consortium program. The Pulitzer Center is looking forward to collaborating with South Dakota's largest university and working with students enrolled in the University's Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, a program that strives to educate the next generation of media professionals while upholding the University's tradition of being a land-grant institution.

"We're eager to work with South Dakota State University and contribute to its mission of educating the next generation of media professionals," says Jon Sawyer, Pulitzer Center executive director. "Collaboration is critical to the Pulitzer Center model and our efforts to broaden the public's global horizons – from our work with major news media outlets and educational partners to our use of e-books, social media, and public events to engage the broadest possible audience. We look forward to building our partnership with the department of journalism and mass communication and with the broader university community."

During the 2012/2013 academic year, the consortium will facilitate two multi-day SDSU campus visits involving Pulitzer Center staff and journalists. The Pulitzer Center will also provide one international reporting fellowship for an SDSU journalism student who will report for the Center on an under-reported issue from anywhere in the world.

To launch the partnership, Pulitzer Center grantee and veteran journalist Reese Erlich will visit the SDSU campus this month, offering a lecture on September 11 exploring the "Arab Spring from Syria to Egypt and Gaza." The lecture stems from his Pulitzer Center-supported reporting project "Arab Spring in Syria, Egypt and Gaza" that explores recent uprisings across the Arab world. For event details, please visit the SDSU event website.

In addition to delivering the public lecture, Erlich will lead classroom discussions and work with students interested in reporting on international issues.
