Despite being a land of concrete freeways, nondescript malls and sprawling multiplexes, the City of Angeles has plenty to offer visitors with a keen eye for architecture. Nestled between the city’s skyscrapers are spectacular buildings of structural and artistic note, ranging from Art Deco to postmodern to Spanish Mission – you just have to know where to look.

Built in 1930, the brightly-coloured façade makes the highly decorated building the jewel in LA’s architectural crown. (Heather Arnold)
