Oct 18 (Reuters) - Susan Bastress, former managing partner of Patton Boggs' office in Doha, Qatar, has rejoined the firm in Washington and later this year will return to Qatar. Bastress, who joins from Bastress & Associates, was, prior to that, a real estate partner at Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe.

Intellectual property attorney Charles Ossola has left Dickstein Shapiro to join Vinson & Elkins as partner in Washington.

Former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld is now with Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo as a member in Boston. He will also serve as principal in the firm's government relations and consulting affiliate, ML Strategies, LLC.

In Chicago, Schiff Hardin has hired Ami Scott as partner in its finance group. Scott moves over from Mayer Brown.

Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher has added patent litigator Michael Valek, from Vinson & Elkins, as of counsel in its Dallas office.

Sandra Heller has joined Akerman Senterfitt as shareholder in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Coming over from Goldstein Law Group, Heller will work in Akerman's litigation practice group.

In Seattle, Lane Powell has hired Sarah MacLeod, formerly of Miller Nash, as an attorney in its trusts and estates practice group.

Squire Sanders is opening an office in Sydney, Australia, on Nov. 1 with four new hires. Campbell Davidson, a mergers and acquisitions specialist, will be partner and moves over from Allens. Joining as of counsel are Richard Pascoe, from Truman Hoyle, and Louise Boyce from DLA Piper.
