There are a large number of organisations that are involved in tourism in New Zealand, including Government departments, regional and Māori tourism organisations, marketing networks formed by private operators and industry associations representing operators from across the different sectors of the tourism industry.

      Tourism New Zealand

      Tourism New Zealand is the organisation responsible for marketing New Zealand to the world as a tourist destination. The major tool we use to do this is the 100% Pure New Zealand marketing campaign, a campaign that has evolved over the past decade to become one of the world's most well-respected tourism brands. Tourism New Zealand is a Crown Entity funded by the New Zealand Government and established under the New Zealand Tourism Board Act 1991. Read more under About Us

      Business, Innovation & Employment, Ministry of

      The Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) works directly for the Ministers of Commerce, Communications and Information Technology, Consumer Affairs, Economic Development, Energy and Resources, Regulatory Reform, Rugby World Cup, Small Business and Tourism. MBIE is divided into eight branches. The Tourism, Events and Consumer Affairs branch (TECA) undertakes research and provides policy advice on matters relating to major events, tourism and consumer issues. This branch includes the Tourism Strategy Group. www.mbie.govt.nz

      Business, Innovation & Employment, Ministry of - Tourism Strategy Group

      The Tourism Strategy Group, which sits within the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) provides tourism policy advice to the Minister of Tourism and works with other Government departments on key tourism policy issues and tourism research and statistics. The Tourism Strategy Group advises and evaluates government investments in tourism. www.tourism.govt.nz

      New Zealand Māori Tourism Council

      The New Zealand Māori Tourism Council (NZMTC) incorporates 13 Māori Regional Tourism Organisations (MRTOs) and is primarily funded by Te Puni Kokiri, the Government ministry concerned with Māori development. NZMTCs mission is to provide a mutually supportive network for the development of best practice by member MRTOs. www.Maoritourism.co.nz

      i-SITE Visitor Centres

      i-SITE' is New Zealand's official Visitor Information Network. i-SITE's 88 locations around New Zealand provide visitors with comprehensive, up-to-date information and a New Zealand-wide booking service for activities, attractions, accommodation and transport. www.i-site.org.nz or read more here

      Qualmark New Zealand

      Qualmark is New Zealand tourism's official quality assurance agency. It is jointly owned by Tourism New Zealand and the New Zealand Automobile Association. It operates as a licensing system for tourism's official quality mark (the Qualmark) and all tourism businesses in New Zealand are eligible to apply. www.qualmark.co.nz or read more here

      @home New Zealand

      The national organisation promoting quality hosted accommodation and the growth of farm and home hosting in New Zealand. Member homes and properties are regularly inspected and assessed. www.athomenz.org.nz

      Bus and Coach Association

      An industry association representing bus and coach operators, limousine and small passenger service vehicle (PSV) operators, as well as other businesses associated with the industry, including coach, equipment and service suppliers. www.busandcoach.co.nz

      Holiday Accommodation Parks Association of New Zealand

      The Holiday Accommodation Parks Association of New Zealand (HAPNZ) is a membership-based and funded organisation representing the interests of more than 300 holiday park members and 70 trade members in the commercial holiday park sector. www.hapnz.co.nz

      Hospitality Association New Zealand

      The Hospitality Association is a voluntary trade association representing more than 2000 hospitality businesses. The Association provides members with advice on legal and trade issues and has purchasing deals with major wholesalers. www.hanz.org.nz

      Motel Association of New Zealand

      The Motel Association of New Zealand (MANZ) is the national trade association representing motels in New Zealand. www.nzmotels.co.nz

      Mountain Guides Association

      The New Zealand Mountain Guides Association (NZMGA)  is the recognised professional association of trained and certified mountain guides in New Zealand, setting and maintaining industry standards for the mountain guiding profession. In 1981 the Association became a member of the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations - the IFMGA. www.nzmga.org.nz

      New Zealand Hotel Council

      The New Zealand Hotel Council is an incorporated society whose members include the international chain, independent, privately owned and boutique hotels throughout the country. www.nzhc.org.nz

      NZ Backpacker, Youth and Adventure Tourism Association

      Previously the Backpacker Marketing Network, nzbackpack.com is a member-based organisation that promotes New Zealand as a world-class backpacking destination. The organisation's role is to ensure that New Zealand continues to be seen as a high quality and highly desirable backpacking destination. www.byata.org.nz

      Professional Fishing Guides Association

      The Fishing Guides Association advocates on behalf of members with Government and other bodies, promotes guided fishing trips around New Zealand, investigates complaints and disputes and communicates with members via a regular newsletter. www.nzpfga.com

      Professional Hunting Guides Association

      The New Zealand Professional Hunting Guides Association Inc puts in place processes and procedures to ensure the highest possible professional and safety practices by members and the safety of their clients. www.nzphga.com

      Rafting Association

      The New Zealand Rafting Association (NZRA) is made up of rafting guides, operators and other interested parties. It promotes the sport of white water rafting, industry safety standards and environmentally and culturally sustainable rafting practices. www.nz-rafting.co.nz

      Rental Vehicle Association

      The Rental Vehicle Association represents the vehicle rental and leasing industry in New Zealand and also represents the interests of operators who hire or lease passenger vehicles, minibuses, vans, coaches, trucks, campervans and motorcycles. www.rentalvehicle.co.nz

      Restaurant Association of New Zealand

      The Restaurant Association of New Zealand represents the people and organisations involved in the restaurant and hospitality industry across the country.       Sea Kayaking Operators Association New Zealand

      The Sea Kayak Operators Association of New Zealand (SKOANZ) is a voluntary membership organisation with a Code of Practice and Guiding Qualifications developed to foster good industry practices. www.skoanz.org.nz

      The Tourism Industry Association

      The Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIA) is the largest representative body for tourism operators in the country. It is independent, membership-based and represents more than 2000 businesses and organisations. TIA champions the interests of its members with Government and other decision makers. It builds partnerships between the tourism industry and Government, and works with all organisations involved in tourism. TIA also provides tools and information to help members run successful businesses. TIA manages key national industry events each year including TRENZ. www.tianz.org.nz

      Tourism Export Council of New Zealand (formerly Inbound Tour Operators Council)

      Inbound operators are responsible for providing a link between tourism businesses in New Zealand and the overseas travel companies that book them. The Tourism Export Council represents two levels of members. Full members are inbound tour operators in New Zealand, and allied members are product suppliers. www.tourismexportcouncil.org.nz

      Travel Agents Association of New Zealand

      The Travel Agents' Association of New Zealand (TAANZ) represents the travel agent and tour operator distribution system in New Zealand. TAANZ is a self regulating organisation promoting quality standards, service and performance. It has more than 520 member organisations employing more than 2400 people working in the tourism sector. www.taanz.org.nz

      Pacific Asia Travel Association

      The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) is a membership association that promotes responsible development of the Asia Pacific travel and tourism industry. PATA aims to enhance the sustainable growth, value and quality of travel and tourism to, from and within the region. www.pata.org

      The United Nations World Tourism Organisation

      The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO/OMT) is an agency of the United ‎Nations that serves as a ‎global forum for tourism policy issues.‎ UNWTO plays a central role in promoting the development of responsible, ‎sustainable and universally accessible tourism. Its membership includes 161 countries and territories and more than 390 Affiliate ‎Members representing the private sector, educational institutions, tourism associations ‎and local tourism authorities.‎ www.unwto.org

    • Regional Tourism Organisations open

      Regional Tourism Organisations

      Regional tourism organisations (RTOs) operate in around 27 regions in New Zealand. They are responsible for promoting their region to international and domestic visitors. Many work closely with Tourism New Zealand and their local industry to achieve this goal. Some RTOs are funded in part or in full by their local council, others are funded by annual membership fees.       Māori Regional Tourism Organisations

      The eight Māori Regional Tourism Organisations (MRTOs) are self-identified collectives of mainly Māori tourism operators in a particular region. They exist to build capacity, encourage networking and the formation of relationships with key industry networks.

      Best of Golf New Zealand

      The Best of Golf New Zealand is the brand name for the New Zealand Golf Tourism Cluster, whichs aims to provide a quality golf experience for visitors to New Zealand. Members include some of New Zealand's top golf courses and resorts, specialist golf tour operators and lodges. www.bestofgolfnewzealand.com

      Best of Spa New Zealand

      The Best Spas of New Zealand is a tourism marketing network formed with the aim of promoting top quality spa experiences to both international and domestic visitors. Membership is limited and is governed by strict criteria developed in conjunction with Qualmark. www.bestspasofnewzealand.com

      Cruise New Zealand

      Cruise New Zealand (CNZ) markets New Zealand as a cruise destination to cruise lines. CNZ's membership is made up of airlines, hotels, inbound operators, regional tourism organisations (RTOs), regional authorities, providers, shipping agents and port companies throughout New Zealand. www.cruisenewzealand.org.nz

      Food and Wine Marketing Network

      The New Zealand Food and Wine Tourism Network's focus is on developing the number of high-end food and wine experiences available to international visitors via their travel agents. The Network was formed in 2004 and has more than 40 members including New Zealand Winegrowers, RTO's, wine and food companies and accommodation providers.

      Ski Tourism Marketing Network

      The Ski Marketing Network is made up of New Zealand's premier ski resorts and snow sports areas, their adjacent regional areas and Air New Zealand. The Ski Tourism Marketing Network combines resources to promote winter skiing holidays through advertising and public relations work, primarily focused on Australia. www.newzealandski.co.nz

      The Aviation, Tourism and Travel Training Organisation (ATTTO)

      ATTTO works with industry partners to develop national qualifications in tourism and coordinate workplace training. www.attto.org.nz

      New Zealand Tourism Research Institute

      The Institute is based at the Auckland University of Technology. It brings together experts in the tourism and hospitality sectors to develop tourism research to support the development of a profitable and sustainable tourism industry. www.nztri.org
