Lund University most popular for new Master's students

The deadline for applications to international Master’s programmes in Sweden starting in autumn 2012 was 16 January. In total 31 223 international students applied to universities in Sweden, and Lund University received 11 160 of these applications which is an increase from last year by 23%.

These figures include both European and non-European students from 152 countries and we have seen a significant increase of applications from USA, Russia, UK and Australia to mention a few.

Lund University was by far the most popular choice among the international students, receiving almost 73% more applications than the second most popular university, Stockholm University which had 6444 applicants.

When applying for studies in Sweden through the national application system, a student can select up to four different programmes and universities and rank their choices in order of preference. Lund University received 7 426 first choice applications which is a 42% increase from last year.

Lund University is also the university in Sweden that offers the most popular Master’s programme in all of Sweden; International Marketing & Brand Management with 992 applicants. In total Lund University offers 9 out of the 20 most popular programmes in Sweden.

One explanation for the increase could be the marketing efforts, with a strong presence in social media and the participation in graduate fairs around the world" says Richard Stenelo, Head of International Marketing and Recruitment.

Some Master’s programmes at Lund University are still open for late applications.
