  • Toga Party

  • When: July 28
  • The scene: The legacy of ancient Rome lives on thanks to the spirited revelers at the Social Boston Sports toga party, where guests played classic games like foosball and four square and danced the night away -- clad in their best bedsheets-turned-togas, of course.

  • Breakfast at Tiffany's party
  • 'Tiffany's' Screening

  • When: March 14
  • The scene: Pearls, sunglasses, and sleeping masks were the accessories du jour as film buffs and top bananas in the shock department flocked to Coolidge Corner Theatre to celebrate the 50th anniversary of "Breakfast at Tiffany's" with a screening and costume contest. They whistled "Moon River" all the way home.
  • Movember Gala
  • Movember Gala

  • When: Dec. 2
  • The scene: Movember is a worldwide fund-raising campaign that encourages men to grow mustaches in November to raise money and awareness for men's health issues. "Mo Bros" and "Mo Sistas" came together to show off their growing efforts at Ned Devine's and compete for several titles, including the coveted prize: Man of Movember.
  • Nouveau Cirque
  • Nouveau Cirque

  • When: Nov. 18
  • The scene: Wine and as much cotton candy as we can consume? Yes, please. Revelers celebrated the end of the harvest and the arrival of Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau from France and got an eyeful of the aerialists and jugglers at last night's Nouveau Cirque. Second Glass hosted the wine tasting with a circus theme at the Villa Victoria Center for the Arts.
  • Middle School Dance Party
  • Middle School Fete

  • When: Oct. 16
  • Venue: Good Life
  • The scene: The crowds at Good Life Saturday hopped in the wayback machine and set the dial for 1993. Cue the hormones, awkwardness, and Jamiroquai. Philadelphia DJ Apt One spun hits from the '70s, '80s, and '90s alongside spinsters Mikey Lee and Damien Paul and DJ duo Deathstar in the bar's streamer-strewn basement.
  • Project MUM
  • Project MUM

  • When: Aug. 21
  • Venue: Under McGrath Highway
  • The scene: What does Funkadelic space attire mean to you? Partygoers at this shindig and tribute to George Clinton under McGrath Highway interpreted the theme in different ways — people dressed as "robots from the future" and spirits. DJs Flack, Wayne & Wax, Axel Foley, Pace, and Brother Cleve spun funk under a disco ball and dancing lights.
  • Gregorio Uribe
  • Gregorio Uribe

  • When: Aug. 5
  • Venue: Zumix
  • The scene: The Tito Puente Latin Music Series wrapped up at Zumix in East Boston with the Gregorio Uribe Big Band. (The concert was supposed to happen on the East Boston Greenway; stormy weather necessitated a last-minute venue change.) A packed house of all ages took in the group's Colombian tune and dance they did.
  • ArtBeat Fest
  • ArtBeat Fest

  • When: July 16-17
  • Venue: Somerville
  • The scene: The theme of this year's Somerville Arts Council-sponsored music and art fest was "Water" — fitting, considering the downpour on Friday night's concert. Bearstronaut, Death Vessel, and other bands entertained the crowd in Seven Hills Park on Friday night; on Saturday, bands took to stages scattered around the city.
  • Yappier Hour
  • Yappier Hour

  • When: May 26
  • The scene: Dogs and their owners basked in the evening sun on the outside patio at the Liberty Hotel's Yappier Hour on a recent Wednesday night. The pups sniffed, sampled treats, and lapped up "puptails" while their owners had cocktails and socialized at this weekly event.
  • Silent Disco
  • Silent Disco

  • When: May 13
  • The scene: The only way to hear the deep house and electro grooves at a recent Silent Disco at OM? Through wireless headphones. Party goers danced the night away to tunes that DJ Domonique transmitted directly to their ears. (To the curious onlooker, it appeared as if people were dancing sans music.)
