Baghdad (NINA) – Deputy Prime Minister, Saleh al-Mutlaq, stressed, "Iraq still among the countries with highest number of casualties among journalists, and journalism is the most endangered profession in Iraq, in the absence of security and law."
In a statement on the International Day of Freedom of the Press, Mutlaq said, "Journalists around the world celebrate this day, while in Iraq the number of casualties among journalists increase."
He added, "The government has not yet made public investigation results on who stand behind the assassination of journalists." He stressed, "Journalism in Iraq is still being endangered."
He demanded the government to provide more security and legal protection to journalists, as well as facilitate their works in uncovering corruption on economic, political and security levels. / End.
