The Syrian national football team defeated Jordan 2 – 1 on Monday marking their spot in the semi-final of the 2012 West Asian Football Federation Championship.

Despite being away from their homeland, the Syrian team wasn’t able to escape their country’s civil war. The match, played in Kuwait, was briefly halted when a man carrying the revolution flag swept through the field.

Inside the stadium, fans supporting the Syrian team waved their country’s flag and pictures of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Outside the stadium, a large angry crowd marched against the Syrian regime. The protestors were denied access to the match amid heavy Kuwaiti security presence to avoid violence.
