AMMAN — Amman Prosecutor General Azam Nijdawi on Monday listened to the testimony of journalist Ahmad Hassan Zu’bi in a lawsuit filed against him by former prime minister Ali Abul Ragheb.

Zu’bi said that Abul Ragheb had filed a case against him regarding a statement published on his website, sawaleif.com, issued by the Ahrar Ramtha and Bani Kinanah group, in response to a previous statement issued by Abul Ragheb describing them as “bats of darkness”.

Zu’bi stressed that the statement was published on several media outlets and news websites.

Nidal Mansour, president of the Centre for Defending the Freedom of Journalists, who attended the session with Zu’bi, said the prosecutor general had listened to Zu’bi’s testimony and decided not to detain him, noting the case will be referred to court.

He added that the centre’s legal aid unit will continue to defend Zu’bi.
