The relief in Robert Griffin III's voice is haunting now. The dramatic irony is one big punch to the Washington Redskins' collective gut. Griffin chuckled early in Sunday's playoff loss to Seattle, hopeful he escaped a serious knee injury. As we know now, he ultimately did not.

Instead of overworking running back Ray Rice during the regular season, the Ravens limited his carries so he would be healthy when it mattered. Heading into Saturday's playoff game in Denver, Rice says, "This is the best I've ever felt." (Associated Press)

It's the time of year when Ray Rice usually begins to feel the effects of being the Baltimore Ravens' go-to guy on offense. This season, however, has been different.

SNYDER: RG3, Junior Seau evidence of NFL’s negligent culture

By Deron Snyder - The Washington Times

Football is a violent and dangerous game. I get that. But there has been too much misdirection in the aftermath of Robert Griffin III going down against Seattle.

FENNO: For D.C. sports fans, the pleasure comes with pain

By Nathan Fenno - The Washington Times

From Drew Storen to RG3, the heartbreak of the last three months is the price for relevance. If these games didn't matter, the way they ended, on the field and in the examination room, wouldn't sting so much.

RG3 watch focuses on future with knee surgery complete

By Rich Campbell - The Washington Times

The eight-month countdown to the start of the 2013 Washington Redskins' regular season began in earnest Wednesday when quarterback Robert Griffin III emerged from surgery. Renowned orthopedist James Andrews reconstructed the anterior cruciate ligament and repaired the lateral collateral ligament in Griffin's right knee. Now Griffin is rehabilitating against the clock.

Redskins’ expiring contracts become focus ahead of roster moves

By Rich Campbell - The Washington Times

While coach Mike Shanahan and the Washington Redskins' coaching staff squirm over the status of quarterback Robert Griffin III's right knee, they turn their attention this week to improving the quality of a roster that entered the offseason with the unfamiliar title of NFC East champions.

When Ray Lewis was selected in the first round of the 1996 NFL draft, he didn't even know the nickname of the team that drafted him. But Lewis quickly became the face of the Baltimore Ravens, and the stellar middle linebacker will remain a beloved figure in Charm City long after he pulls off his No. 52 jersey for the final time.
