Mark J. Czerwinski has been a staff writer at The Record since 1985, covering everything from high school sports to the NHL. Mark also writes The Record's weekly hunting and fishing column. Mark currently covers high school football, girl's basketball and high school baseball. Mark graduated from Pace University in White Plains, N.Y, in 1984 with a B.A. in Journalism and worked for three years at the Paterson News before joining The Record. He was ordained a permanent Deacon in the Catholic Church in June 2008 and is married with two children.

James Ahearn has been writing and editing for The Record since 1962, when he became the paper’s first full-time State House correspondent. Since then he has served as editorial page editor, managing editor, and now, semi-retired, as contributing editor. A graduate of Amherst College, he was a Nieman Journalism Fellow at Harvard in 1970-1971. He was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize for editorial writing in 1972 and served twice subsequently as a Pulitzer juror. His work has been honored by the American Bar Association and the New Jersey Press Association. He entered journalism in Boston as a newsman for United Press and was subsequently assigned to its Newark and Trenton bureaus. Previously, he served in the U.S. Naval Reserve, as a combat information and operations officer on destroyers. He and his wife Mary Ann celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2007. They have four adult children and two grandsons.

Marie Strumolo Burke has been a resident of Belleville for nearly 50 years. She is the co-founder and president of the Silver Lake Civic Association, the Belleville Democratic chairman, and has been the Belleville Planning Board clerk for 20 years. She was elected First Ward councilwoman in 2004 and re-elected in 2008.

Schensul, a Cornell University graduate with a master’s from the University of Arizona, also offers travel advice on numerous radio and TV shows.

Bill Ervolino, the humor columnist for The Record, has written extensively about entertainment, books, health and lifestyle issues. He is the author of “Some Kind of Wiseguy: Stories About Parents, Weddings, Modern Living and Growing Up Italian” and a co-author of “The Backstage Performing Artists Handbook” and “Italian American Authors on New Jersey.” Ervolino, who joined The Record’s staff in 1990, has won many national awards for his writing and is active with several local charities, including Gilda’s Club Northern New Jersey.

Raymond A. Edel, a 25-year veteran at The Record, is the calendar listings editor for Features, writes and edits TV’s best bets and produces a weekly radio column called Radio Waves. He also writes a gardening column, From The Ground Up, and a gardening blog for northjersey.com. Edel, a graduate of William Paterson College, is a certified Passaic County Master Gardener and caretaker of the Hamilton House Museum Herb Garden in Clifton. He also teaches gardening classes at the Clifton Recreation Department.
