Visions of Mortality

The vast collection of antiquarian Francis Douce incorporated a wide range of images of death and the afterlife. These included a set of William Blake’s designs for The Grave, now in Oxford’s Ashmolean Museum, resonant Romantic additions to an age-old pictorial tradition.
