The National Democratic Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization working to support and strengthen democratic institutions worldwide through citizen participation, openness and accountability in government.

With the motto “unity in diversity,” Kenya’s Inter-Party Youth Forum (IPYF) is bringing together young political party activists from across the political spectrum to collaborate on solutions to the most pressing issues facing the nation’s youth, including unemployment, substance abuse and disenfranchisement.

In Ghana's recent election NDItech partnered with the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) to increase information to citizens about the election. CODEO deployed 3,999 citizen observers to transmit election results data via SMS, and also communicated with voters via a Facebook page where citizens could debate political issues, and a call-in service for radio stations to broadcast voter information. We spoke with NDItech's Program Officer Chris Doten about this innovative mobile audio-to-radio project.
