Inside Our Company

We recognize that by fostering the full development of our talents through innovative training, special assignments, mentoring, career guidance, leadership development and other means, each and every employee can do their best work.

Diversity Education and Awareness

Our diversity and inclusion training for managers, Managing for Inclusion, emphasizes the importance of an inclusive environment and provides our leaders with the tools required to manage a 21st century workforce.

In addition to a variety of Leadership Development courses, we also offer on-line programs such as  Communicating Across Cultures, Managing Multigenerational Teams and other courses that provides guidelines for appropriate workplace behavior as well as practical skills for effectively working with colleagues and customers.

In many of our business units, employees participate in diversity-related seminars where they discuss a wide range of diversity and inclusion issues in the workplace. Along with raising awareness, these seminars provide employees with the opportunity to share their thoughts and insights so that all staff can perform to their potential.

Mentoring and Development

We believe mentoring contributes to a dynamic work environment and has positive effect on retaining a diverse, high performing workforce.

All employees can participate in our effective mentoring program which supports the idea that continuous learning, improvement and innovation benefit not only the mentee but also the mentor and The New York Times Company.

The Cross Affinity Network Mentoring Program is designed to provide opportunities for professional learning, development and networking across the organization. The Cross Affinity Group Mentoring uses mentoring circles of two "Circle Leaders" (mentors) and seven or eight employees (Circle Members). The groups meet to discuss a broad array of topics geared towards understanding business operations, understanding the newsroom and professional development.

We also recognize that Educational Assistance is an important component of the employee development process. In addition to one's regular job and special assignments or projects, employees can also develop the necessary technical, personal and management skills to grow by taking relevant continuing education courses. Our Educational Assistance Program is meant to maximize the employee's development and help the organization grow simultaneously.

Employee Affinity Networks

Employee affinity networks bring people together as a way to educate and promote an environment of understanding, acceptance and diversity and inclusion among all employees. Our networks provide opportunities to develop professionally and enhance networking in the Company while helping to strengthen our shared commitment to diversity and inclusion.

The Company currently has seven employee affinity groups, which center on the common interests of Women, those of African, Asian or Latino heritage and our GLBT & Allies (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender) employees. Our 50+ affinity network centers on the common issues and concerns of those approaching or over the age of 50. In addition, our Executive Assistants Resource Network (EARN) is dedicated to the interests of the administrative population.

Along with providing a forum for members to discuss challenges and opportunities, affinity networks help support the company's diversity and inclusion mission by collaborating on issues like mentoring and development, employee engagement, and education and awareness. Every affinity group is open to any and all employees regardless of gender, race, color, religion, national origin, physical or mental disability, marital status or sexual orientation.
