History of Hindu Mandir & Cultural Center

Since January of 2007, Hindu Mandir & Cultural Center started functioning in a private home with weekly poojas and with tremendous support from Tuscaloosa and surrounding Hindu communities’ participation. Within a couple of months, more than $120,000 of donations was collected and the temple was able to acquire a debt-free property with two acres of land including a house. Since October of 2007, the temple operations had been moved to Culver Rd. temple’s property. With the relocation, people’s participation has significantly improved including Gujarati samaj having a monthly bhajan meetings and Indian students’ participation from the University of Alabama. On February of 2008, the two-car garage that existed as a different structure was converted into a library and a classroom for the children.
