Info

Justin Elliott, a journalist with ProPublica, discusses his article “Revealed: America’s Arms Sales to Bahrain Amid Bloody Crackdown;” the scant media coverage of continuing pro-democracy protests in Bahrain; the FOIA documents that cast doubt on US government claims that weapons sales to Bahrain are only used for external defense, not political repression; and the “questionable claim” that Iran has 30,000 intelligence operatives.

  • This is all about the Sunni-Shia tension, and you can’t understand the situation in Bahrain if you don’t understand that. You also can’t ignore the Iranian factor. (Scott, you don’t think Iran has an army, navy or air force?) The protesters weren’t asking for a constitution; Bahrain already has a constitution and an elected parliament. It is true that Shias are discriminated against, but their lives are much better than those of Syrians under Bashar or Libyans under Qaddafi… Bahrain is not an oppressive state like those; there’s no comparison.

Umm, we all know that you are an Israeli and we do not believe anything you write in a comment.

      • lol! I am someone who lives in the Middle East (not in Israel) and is disappointed at how many of these people interviewed are people who haven’t a clue… with some notable exceptions such as Adam Morrow. Anyone who actually knows these regions would laugh at most of the views expressed here.
