This is all about the Sunni-Shia tension, and you can’t understand the situation in Bahrain if you don’t understand that. You also can’t ignore the Iranian factor. (Scott, you don’t think Iran has an army, navy or air force?) The protesters weren’t asking for a constitution; Bahrain already has a constitution and an elected parliament. It is true that Shias are discriminated against, but their lives are much better than those of Syrians under Bashar or Libyans under Qaddafi… Bahrain is not an oppressive state like those; there’s no comparison.
