Q: I received a PHP Fatal Error when I installed Bad Behavior and now my site doesn’t work at all! Or, I got the “white screen of death”!

A: This occurs when one or more of Bad Behavior’s files was not uploaded completely or was corrupted during (or after) upload. If you’re using FTP, be sure to set your FTP client to upload files with the extensions .php and .ini in ASCII mode. If this doesn’t help, try uploading with a different FTP client, or use SFTP.

If you still get a fatal error, make a copy of the error message (if you get the white screen of death, the error message is logged on the server; ask your web host for a copy) and then send it to me and I’ll try to help you.

  1. Hello,

I recently found out that spammers used the pictures on our website to post comments. I did a bit of research to fix that issue and came across your plug in. I installed it along with cookies for comments. Ever since, I haven’t been able to log into my website admin panel.

For the record, I don’t have any other access to the admin panel than through WordPress. I keep getting an HTTP Error 403:

We’re sorry, but we could not fulfill your request for /scooty/wp-login.php on this server.

You do not have permission to access this server. Data may not be posted from offsite forms.

Your technical support key is: 6cc2-14dd-cd36-1abb

You can use this key to fix this problem yourself.

What should I do from here? I tried logging in from a different computer, same issue, same technical support key.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. When viewing the permitted link in the behavior log it shows a record that I don’t want permitted. How to I block it again because I believe I accidently permitted it?

  3. I installed Bad Behavior and now I am blocked from my own site! I cannot log in from either the login link on the front page or by typing in …/wp-admin in the url.

I can get at it via ftp, what will happen if I just delete the folder from my installation? Is there some file in there I can manually edit to fix this?

    • Hi Barb,

You need to include your technical support key when asking for assistance.

    • I installed Bad Behavior and now I too am blocked from my own site! I cannot log in from either the login link on the front page or by typing in …/wp-admin in the url.

I read the answer above and it makes no sense to me. “you need to log in from the same website you are trying to log in to. You tried to log in from a different site” ?? I should be able to click the log in link on my home page, which no longer works. I should be able to get to it by /wp-admin at the end of my URL, that does not work. What do you mean “log in from a different site” ? I should be able to log into my dashboard from any computer.

I can get at it via ftp, what will happen if I just delete the folder from my installation? Is there some file in there I can manually edit to fix this?

    • Sorry, I am trying to rush this because I have to get off the computer in a few minutes. When I try to log in to the site *nothing happens*, no error page, no support key, nothing. just a blank page.

Sure would be easier if you had an edit reply function on this thing.

      • Hi Barb,

That suggests that your upload didn’t go off correctly and some files were corrupted. You should log in with FTP, delete the whole Bad Behavior plugin directory, and try it again.

If your host permits it, you should use the WordPress plugin page to install Bad Behavior automatically (see the installation instructions).

  4. and my replies keep crossing yours, sorry. So that means it is not BB blocking me. I will have to call my ISP i guess. Thank you.

  5. Thanks, i will try that.

Bad behavior is blocking feedburner. Is there a way to fix this?

    • Holly,

If you’re certain that it’s the real Feedburner, then e-mail me with the log entries and any other relevant information. Keep in mind that Bad Behavior may block fake Feedburner bots.

  7. I was checking the comments on my blog, and tried to comment from my wife’s computer. She got an error message with the following code:4849-73bf-cd36-1abb
What can I do to fix this?

    • Jeff,

The first thing to do is to click the “fix it yourself” link and follow the directions given. This indicates that the source of your form posting was a different web site, and that’s why it was blocked. I took a quick look at your site, and it has some weird JavaScript things going on that may be interfering with your ability to post comments. If you continue to have this trouble, you may want to check your WordPress plugins as it may be one of them interfering.

  8. The newest version of JetPack allows people to post comments using their facebook ids. This apparently is not allowed by Bad Behavior and causes the error message.

Fix it yourself only repeated the information that you can’t post from another website.

Hi. I’ve the same problem: bad behavior blocks me. And this each time I used a another network with my notebook. I work at different places with different networks. My IP changes every day several times. So I will block every day? What I can do? Please help.

The support key this morning was: 57bd-6c7e-cd36-1abb
The support key now is: 4db8-4bb1-cd36-1abb

    • quergeist,

Follow the directions given in “fix it yourself”.

        Michael,
I dit but I don’t understand what I have to do: “You submitted a form to the site which originated from a different web site. This is not allowed. To resolve this issue, submit your data from a form on the same web site.”
I try to login from the normal wp-admin page… Thanks for your support.
