AMMAN – Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Tuesday submitted the resignation of his government to His Majesty King Abdullah, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The King entrusted the government to continue its constitutional mandate until after the first extraordinary session of parliament and until consultations with MPs to form a new parliamentary government yield results, according to Petra.

Last Wednesday, after casting his ballot in the parliamentary elections, Ensour told reporters that his government would submit its resignation to King Abdullah after election day, saying it is a parliamentary custom that governments should resign after elections.

Ensour was appointed premier in October of last year, tasked mainly with overseeing last week’s legislative polls.
