AMMAN — Faisali and Wihdat are among the top 20 Asian clubs of the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) ranking issued on Monday.

Saudi Arabian clubs Hilal Riyadh and Ittihad Jeddah lead the top 20 Asian ranking, followed by Uzbekistan’s Pakhtakor FK Tashkent, South Korea’s Suwon Samsung Blue-Wings FC, Japan’s FC Gamba Osaka and Kashima Antlers, South Korea’s Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma, Iran’s Sepahan Isfahan, South Korea’s Jeonbuk Hyundai, Kuwait’s Kuwait Kaifan, Iran’s Esteghlal, Qatar’s Al Sadd, South Korea’s FC Pohang Steelers, Kuwait’s Qadissieh, South Korea’s Ulsan Hyundai Horangi, UAE’s Al Ain, Jordan’s Faisali, Saudi Arabia’s Al Shabab, Japan’s Urawa FC Red Diamonds and Jordan’s Wihdat.

This month, Jordanian teams failed to make it into the top 300 clubs of the world — Faisali are 352nd while Wihdat are 365th.

The top 10 coaches are: Sir Alexander Ferguson (Scotland), José Mário dos Santos Mourinho (Portugal), Arsène Wenger (France), Fabio Capello (Italy), Vicente del Bosque (Spain), Marcelo Alberto Bielsa (Argentina), Guus Hiddink (Netherlands), Carlo Ancelotti (Italy), Luiz Felipe Scolari (Brazil) and Rafael Benítez (Spain).

The leading South American coach of the 21st century is Argentinean Marcelo Alberto Bielsa (Athletic Club de Bilbao), ahead of Brazil’s national team coach Scolari. The leading coach of the CONCACAF area of the 21st century is the US-American Bruce Arena (Los Angeles Galaxy); Africa’s is the Egyptian Hassan Shehata (Zamalek SC Cairo); Asia’s is the Iraqi Adnan Hamad (Jordan‘s national team) while Oceania’s is the German Holger Osieck (Australia‘s national coach).

Apart from the local competitions, Jordanian teams have been inactive on the Asian scene as both Wihdat and Faisali were eliminated from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup.

For the upcoming season, Ramtha and Faisali kick off their 2013 AFC Cup matches in two tough groups hoping Jordanian teams can again make it to the finals of the second-tier Asian club competition, which was won by Faisali in 2005 and 2006, and Shabab Urdun in 2007.

On the Arab scene, last season’s Jordan Professional League’s Baqaa and Shabab Urdun played the inaugural Arab Football Association Cup which saw Shabab Urdun eliminated on aggregate following their draw with Bahrain’s Al Hadd 1-1 and 0-0 in Round 1.

Baqaa advanced to Round 3 after they eliminated Yemen’s Shaab Ibb in Round 2. In Round 3, Baqaa have a tough encounter with Algeria’s Ittihad, Saudi’s Nasr will play Kuwait’s Arabi, Iraq’s Air Force take on Morocco’s Raja Casablanca and Algeria’s Shabab Bluzdad go up against Egypt’s Ismaili. Two teams will qualify from Asia and two from Africa to Round 4.
