After the brutal Khmer Rouge regime swept into power in the 1970s, more than 1.7 million Cambodians—a quarter of the country's population—died from torture, extrajudicial killings, starvation, and disease. Yet, until recently, this murderous history has not been taught in Cambodian schools, leaving a whole generation of Cambodian youngsters without any sense of what happened to their country. This short film, produced just before the launch of the international tribunal set up to try the surviving Khmer Rouge leaders, features interviews with teenagers from all over Cambodia, recording their disbelief about their parents' stories about the infamous killing fields. One after another, members of this younger generation ask to see proof of these horrific crimes. As the film recounts, the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia is trying to finally provide it.
