Overturning of Mubarak and Adli Conviction Expected Outcome of a Flawed Trial

 

The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) said that the Court of Cassation’s ruling today to overturn the conviction of ousted president Mubarak and his interior minister Habib al-Adli was the expected outcome of a flawed, disappointing trial. The EIPR said that the retrial must avoid the grave mistakes of the first trial that led to the annulment of the judgments issued.

Reuters photojournalist prosecuted by before military tribunal

The undersigned Egyptian human rights organizations strongly condemn the arrest of photojournalist Mohamed Sabry and his referral to an expedited military trial after he was detained while preparing a story for Reuters in the Rafah area in northern Sinai. We demand that Sabry be released immediately and that the Military Prosecution drop the charges of being present in a military zone without permission and taking photographs.

The President, his Group, and the Government Must Cease their Policy of Targeting Female Activists and Excluding Women from the Public Sphere

The undersigned feminist and human rights organizations express deep concern due to the escalation of state policies that reinforce the state of impunity and which refrain from protecting citizens and securing peaceful assemblies. The organizations also condemn the perpetuation of the approach of groups that support the regime in targeting female activists and excluding women from the public sphere through direct incitement and aggression.

Against the backdrop of a land dispute on Qursaya Island: At Least Three Dead, Several Injured by Military Police and 25 Detained by Military Prosecutor

Three Egyptian rights organizations strongly condemned today the crimes committed by Military Police forces against residents of Qursaya Island, located in the governor ate of Giza, at dawn on Sunday, 18 November, which left at least three civilians dead and more than five others wounded.

Rights Groups File Urgent Lawsuit against Presidential Decree

This morning 25 Egyptian advocacy organizations filed a lawsuit before the Court of Administrative Justice seeking the annulment of the President’s decree issuing a new constitutional declaration on 21 November and an expedited injunction suspending the decree. The suit (no. 9252/67JY) asks that a hearing on the petition, filed with the first circuit (rights and liberties), be set as soon as possible.

مصلحة السجون تعاقب محبوسا احتياطيا لمطالبته بحقه في الرعاية الصحية

 

قدمت المبادرة المصرية للحقوق الشخصية يوم 8 أكتوبر الماضي ببلاغ جديد للنائب العام طالبت فيه مجددا بضرورة اتخاذ الإجراءات الطبية اللازمة لعلاج وليد حسن أحمد، المحبوس احتياطيا على ذمة قضية "أحداث نايل تاورز“، والذي يعاني من إصابة بجرح في القرنية ويحتاج بشكل عاجل لإجراء جراحتين لاستكمال علاجه، بالإضافة إلى إصابته بكسر في عظمة الفخذ اليمني بسبب إطلاق الشرطة الرصاص عليه أثناء القبض عليه. ولا يلقى الحد الادنى من الرعاية الصحية داخل السجن.
