Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. is recalling about 209,000 of its FJ Cruiser sport utility vehicles because of a problem involving seat belt retractors.
Toyota said the seat belt retractors for the driver and front passenger seat belts are mounted in the rear doors (access doors) of the vehicle.
Due to insufficient strength of the rear door panel, Toyota said cracks may develop over an extended period of time if the rear door is repeatedly and forcefully closed.
If cracks occur in the panel around the lower seat belt retractor anchor, the seat belt retractor may become detached.
The automaker said that it hasn't received any reports of accidents or injuries related to the problem, which involves 2007 through 2013 model year FJ Cruisers.
Toyota said that owners of vehicles covered by this safety recall will soon receive a notification letter containing more details.
The automaker said any authorized Toyota dealer will perform this repair at no charge to the vehicle owner.
