Marco Werman appointed as host of PRI's The World
Beginning January 1, 2013, award-winning radio correspondent Marco Werman will become the full-time host of PRI's the World.
Beginning January 1, 2013, Marco Werman will be the full-time host of PRI’s The World®. Werman has been with the program since its inception, and created and reported the show’s Global Hit segment, in which musicians and musical trends around the globe are linked to the news. Over the past three years, he has also been one of The World’s anchors, bringing his broad reporting experience and significant global knowledge to the program.As full-time host, he will bring to the program insightful interviews, his curiosity about countries beyond our borders and his skills in making global news relevant through the music and cultures of different nations.
Werman got his start in radio while freelancing in Burkina Faso, West Africa, for the BBC World Service, where he later worked as a producer. Prior to joining The World, he started a new public radio station in the Adirondacks and worked as the Rome correspondent for Monitor Radio. He has won numerous awards for his work, including an Emmy for “Out of the Shadow” on Frontline, and the first annual Unity award from the Radio and Television News Director’s Association for coverage of diversity issues. Marco’s work extends beyond The World’s newsroom to offer audiences experiences on television and in social media. He reported from Japan in the aftermath of the Fukushima disaster, in a collaboration with PBS Frontline. He leads viewers to the crossroads of news and culture with his new PBS series, Sound Tracks. He also frequently blogs for The World.org, and has thousands of Twitter followers.
