Faced with the devastating twin threats of digital and China, can a critical Wisconsin industry survive?
Join Pulitzer Center grantee John Schmid on April 15 and 16 at Davidson College, where he'll discuss his project "China and Wisconsin: Paper Cuts." Schmid, a reporter for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, partnered with photojournalist and fellow Sentinel staffer Mike De Sisti on the project.
In the series, Schmid and De Sisti explored the astounding rate and methods of Chinese paper production, which, combined with the ever-evolving Digital Age, threaten to put the Wisconsin paper industry out of business.
While at Davidson College, Schmid will visit classes, lead a workshop for students interested in journalism, and join students and faculty for informal conversations during an open breakfast and private lunch. He also will discuss his reporting on April 15 in a public lecture titled, "A Global Paper Trail: What China’s Rapid Emergence as a Paper Producer Shows About Innovation, Globalization and U.S. Competitiveness."
