Mom's Golden Rule

We at Scribd expect you to be responsible and respectful at all times. We're big believers in “Mom's Golden Rule”—treat other members of the Scribd community the way you'd want your mother treated. If you wouldn't say it to Mom, don't share it here. Do not harass, threaten, or impersonate other members of the Scribd community, and don't disclose anyone else's personal information.

If It's Not Yours, Don't Post It

Scribd takes copyright very seriously and does not want unauthorized works on the site. It's simple: If you do not own the copyright to a work (or have permission from the copyright holder), do not publish it or offer to share it. Remember, copyright can apply to many different kinds of works, including but not limited to music, song lyrics, poems, novels, technical books and movies. Our copyright page has more details about how we respond to unauthorized works published on Scribd.

You Stay Classy, Scribd Community

We encourage frank and lively conversation on Scribd, but you should not share anything that could be classified as pornography, sexually explicit content, or hate speech. Also, do not share anything simply for shock value, such as gratuitous depictions of or discussions about sex and violence. Pretty standard stuff, but it's always worth a reminder.

Promote, Don't Advertise

There are instances in which publishing advertisements on Scribd is okay: sharing a funny advertisement under fair use and storing your company's marketing collateral, for example. However, you're strictly prohibited from sharing—or linking to—anything that promotes or facilitates illegal activities, sexual services or products, malicious software, online health products, media piracy, affiliate marketing services, search engine optimization, or any other kind of spam. Remember, this applies to everything you share on Scribd, not just documents, including your scribbles and even your profile information. Finally, ensure links in your documents don't hide their true destination, cover an entire page, or use URL-shortening services like bit.ly or TinyURL.

Scribd Enforcement

We made these Community Guidelines to remain unbroken. If you violate these rules, your account will be terminated, your content will be deleted from Scribd and you won't be allowed to create a new Scribd account.

You can find more details in our help topic, “What activities are not permitted on Scribd?” and in our Terms of Use; if your question isn't answered there you can ask us at support@scribd.com.

Those are the highlights! We'll work hard to keep Scribd appropriate so you can focus on the first rule of Scribd—to have fun!
